"I've read all the books in this series, and this one was the least engaging for me. I didn't find the case all that compelling, at least not until the end, I was genuinely shocked by the killer reveal. The suspects didn't seem all that different from one another, so the questioning scenes tended to blend together.

Kay's personal life gets a bit more of the spotlight, but it felt like that part of the story was just getting started and then it ended abruptly. Kay's partner Adam is usually a small part of the stories (and I love that his veterinary work adds some humor), but after seven books I feel like there should be more depth to their relationship."

  • I've read all of the Kay Hunter books, and while I enjoyed most of them, they all had a similar "problem," a feeling that neither half of Kay's life was given the weight it deserved.

In her work role, we see a dedicated detective, but too often a solution or suggestion comes from out of the blue, from someone working behind the scenes. This, to me, often felt contrived.

Then, her partner, Adam; as loving and supportive and quirky their relationship is, were never given anything more in-depth than a scene or two throughout the book. We're told her home life is as important to her as her work life, but it doesn't feel that way. I think Ms. Amphlett needs to put more weigh to this part of each story. Show us, don't just tell us.

For example, after Kay's mom calls...nothing more? Dad? Home yet?

Unbalanced. But still a good read.

  • A winner as expected. Kay Hunter once more comes across as detailed oriented inspector with great managerial skills. Her compassion side helps her feel the angst of others and act accordingly.
Ms. AMPHLETT style is superb. Without skipping on the descriptive aspect of her plots and subplots her use of dialogues makes this a fast-paced read. I can't wait for the next one.
  • I love this series. Once again, Amphlett has a strong plot and leads the reader through the maze toward solving the crime. I wish there had been more "scenes" with Adam and Kay, but the resolution of the plot offers a sense of peace to Adam and Kay and also to the reader.
  • Kay's personal life becomes involved in this case which makes it even more interesting and yet she puts that aside and becomes even more determined to find the killer. Good read
  • I’ve read all the books in the Kay Hunter series and all of them have been wonderful. Not one was a disappointment. Can’t wait for a next book in the series.
  • Well, she has done it again! Another excellent book! I highly recommend all of Rachel Amphlett’s work. Looking forward to the next one!
  • Kay Hunter is a great character. She is large and in charge at work and loving at home. I'm ready for the next one.
