"I've read the series and this can be a stand alone. I enjoyed this story of an older couple finding love again. There romance was manly off page but I did feel a connection.
This is a clean story and I loved the ending. Everything tidy up nicely and left a smile on my face.
There is some suspense, twists, HEA, and no cheating. I can't improve on the blurb, so not trying. (ljb)"

- Now that Lord Henry Pomeroy’s three daughters are all happily married, he wants to marry their chaperone Lady Selina Crampton. Even though they have lived in the same house, come to know each, and fallen in love, Selina tells him she can’t marry him – yet. It seems that her despicable husband left money for their daughters, only if she didn’t remarry before they found husbands. The solicitors say there is no way to break the condition, there are some ugly rumors about why Selina has left Henry’s household, and the Crampton heir is after a way to get to the money. Henry is lonely, unhappy, and determined to find a way for them to be together, sooner rather than later. Is it possible or will poor Henry be forced to wait?
Henry and Selina are delightful characters. They are just a little older that most in these stories. They are very much in love and have a comfortable relationship. I had to laugh at Henry when Selina and her girls moved out of his house. He had a terrible case of empty nest syndrome. I thoroughly enjoyed this charming and heartwarming story, and the wonderful surprise at the end. - I read only historical romances and I have read over 800 in just over 3 years. I have to say I have read all of her books and loved every one of them. She is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are great and I love the characters. I love her detail with sex scenes. I would definitely recommend each and every one of her books. You won’t be disappointed.
- This sweet, romantic and slightly silly bit of froth channels the lighter side of Oscar Wilde as in An Ideal Husband or The Importance of Being Earnest.
Comedy of manners with the hero and heroine are a little older than the standard fare. Both are widowed and have been having an affair over the past few years as the heroine has acted as governess/companion to two of the hero's three daughters. An amusing line runs through the story that the hero is inundated with females in his house as the heroine has her two daughters as well. The book starts with the hero relaxing and enjoying the fact his youngest daughter is married and out of the house. Now he can get down to business and marry the heroine. So we have a s loving father, a caring AND honorable lover. What to do and where to go?
A hint of suspense enters when the heroine says no once again to his proposal of marriage. A ridiculous will has bound her to not marrying until her daughters have married as the money is tied up in their dowries.
The heir to the heroine's dead husband comes to town to add some silly drama, but he is a milk-toast villain. He sets some rumors loose about the h to ruin her reputation, but is incapable of true villainy.
The real charm of the story lies with the hero and his love and concern for the heroine. He's a little manic at times, and thinks nothing of challenging anyone who thinks of slandering the heroine.
Not a lot of substance, but what there is refreshing in a sweet hero, a nice heroine, and some minor characters that add a little more spice.
Nice fictional bon bon after the heartburn of ANGST. - The story of Henry and Selina involves the parents of grown girls. Lord Pomeroy ,Henry, had hired Selina to chaperone his daughters until their marriages. When the last is married, Selina feels it is time for her to move out of the man's home. Though they are in love, they cannot marry, because Selina's late husband's will denies the daughters their money if Selina remarries before they marry. Then there is the cousin of the late Lord Crampton who inherited the title but little money. He wants money. With slander, kidnapping, and pregnancy, the adventures continue in this story. Very good story.
- I wanted to like this book more than I did because the hero and heroine were both older. The hero was pretty good. He loved the heroine and knew what he wanted. The heroine was TSTL in my opinion. Also, I’m not sure where Prudence and Phoebe got their honorifics considering their birth father was a viscount. Furthermore, the author really ruined everything by using the phrase “true that†yet again. (She also uses it in book 5). I HATE that expression. It completely took me out of the story. Overall, not great.
- This is grammatical perfection for those of you who care. The only error was in Selina introducing Lord Crampton as a Marquess at the ball. He was a Viscount in the rest of the book.
A really good story. I like that the romance is about an older couple. A 46 year old Earl and a 35 year old Viscountess.
Yes this lady knows what to do with all those letters in our alphabet and the punctuation marks as well. - I've read the series and this can be a stand alone. I enjoyed this story of an older couple finding love again. There romance was manly off page but I did feel a connection.
This is a clean story and I loved the ending. Everything tidy up nicely and left a smile on my face.
